Everything you wrote is OK, but watch out for pins depends on what type you use, some not good for the snakes.
I have been using the bark of poplar and pine (essentially) same as reptibark.

For those who believe that Aspen is not "green" need to know that Aspen is a renewable resource that actually regenerate its own root system. Frow it pretty quickly.

Basically, all are very good for the snake, but it depends on what you want out. If you look good, or poplar bark, I say, if you want (simple and cheap and unatractive) Use paper towels or newspaper.
Cage carpet is beautiful, I think, but nothing seems more natural to me and does not absorb smells so bad shit when he comes home at night and shit snakes in the morning under the heat lamp.
I know that if you use paper towels or newspaper, we need to clean and replace the paper almost immediately after each shit, and the snake would motivate the work the whole time around, so that the law could shit on the floor of the cage. But if weEA thick bark right or poplar, withdraws moisture from the beds and reduce the smell, until it can be cleaned. Then just dig the shit and the dirty sheets around them, and do. Changes complete sleep system will then be conducted every two months.

I am an archer than 20 years and on various diversity, almost all reptiles, you can imagine - alligators, monitors, all varieties of pythons, boas, including toxic than Pitviper Elapidae Cobras, and lizards of all kinds. If you really want the best for the snake, and newspaper or paper towel and use the best available. It is true that some of the bark to help with moisture, but can meet with the speaker and to overcome fog. The paper did not look good, but I do not think you make a public presentation. Good luck.

Since we have come some snakes, larger tanks with a cost must. We use our network of Pine and Boas.
It is relatively inexpensive and easy to clean. In addition to the jaw and holds moisture (which is good for corn, because they are from Florida)
Aspen is also very good, do not use just because it is a little more expensive. Eco-Earth and reptile bark is not so bad, we never again just because of the cost
With you, with a corn and a ball, it is likely that smaller tanks. Try some differnt subsrates and choose what works best. You can find the best for the grain is not so good for the Ball Python.
Good luck!

I love Aspen for maize and Ball Pythons. It is light and loose and can easily enter through the tunnel. Do not feed so it can not be eaten. The Ball Python, you can often spray to keep the moisture.

Ball pythons, like cypress. Also, if you really want your snake as at home, then you should get your desert python snowball effect. It is a white cloth around $ 10 per bag. Corn snakes are less demanding, you'll like Repti bark of the aspen or cypress. Do not use paper towels plz.

Ok ... .. that's my opinion and my opinion only ... I can not do any kind of wood .. Can cause respiratory problems in snakes ... In not say that it very often but it happens ..
If you look good ... I went with reptibark ... but I think that in a separate tank with no substrate, so that there is no chance of swallowing.
It sure is nothing wrong with keeping the snake on a paper towel only to discover that the humidity is kept well and clean ... I usually use paper towels when Im sick in the treatment of mites or snake.
I do not recommend the desert of snow ... dirty quickly and is difficult to clean up the mess of snakes. "
If you go to a big sack of potting soil to obtain. I recommend organic, but without making any kind of fertilizer .. the moisture and keeps ... easy to clean and looks good .. not smell .. I think most of my reptiles in the present and all are robust.
And of course, no one can say the title herpetologist .. so do not ever think that what you said ... If you need assistance, please contact me! Good luck!

I am something other than aspen, paper cutting, but that's okay. Pine / cedar, etc. should not be used because they may resins and oils that contain harm your snake.

I would like to investigate this further, perhaps, or ask your administrator to ask a few questions about your snake.
